Ian is an intellectual property lawyer who advises clients on the full range of IP with a particular interest in contentious matters.

Ian has been particularly involved in patent matters often involving multi-jurisdiction disputes requiring the consideration of wider issues such as pharmaceutical regulation and global licensing structures. With a background in biochemistry and the pharmaceutical industry he is particularly suited to technical patent matters and pharmaceutical regulation. He has particular experience in biotechnology patents relating to antibodies and was also involved in the Servier v Apotex damages inquiry.

In addition to his work on patent matters he has advised on all types of intellectual property including in relation to an anti-piracy scheme involving many of the major software manufacturers.

Ian has spent three months in the UK legal department of a large pharmaceutical company advising on commercial and regulatory issues. He also worked for a year as a research scientist at Astrazeneca.

Having obtained a BSc and PhD in Biochemistry Ian switched to intellectual property law, training as a solicitor at Bristows. He joined Marks & Clerk Solicitors in February 2010.
