Dafydd is an intellectual property lawyer who advises clients on all aspects of litigation and commercial intellectual property matters, including those relating to patents, trademarks, domain names, copyright, designs and confidential information.
Dafydd's growing focus is on advice to clients in the TMT, electronics and mechanical fields. He also works with clients across a broad range of sectors, including life sciences. Dafydd has advised a number of clients on litigation in the Patents Court and Patents County Court, most recently acting for Virgin Media in its high-profile High Court patent dispute with Gemstar relating to Electronic Programme Guides and the associated opposition proceedings at the EPO.
Dafydd also frequently advises clients in trademark and domain name disputes. He has experience of various dispute resolution procedures for domain name recovery. He has worked for a number of clients on matters involving EU customs detention procedures for counterfeit goods. He has also advised on parallel import matters.
In addition to his litigation and dispute resolution experience, Dafydd has considerable experience of advising clients on commercial and transactional matters involving licensing and commercialisation of intellectual property and has significant experience of IP due diligence. He has worked on R&D collaboration agreements, licensing and sponsorship arrangements, employee IP issues and the IP aspects of corporate transactions. He recently advised on the intellectual property aspects of a joint venture involving sponsorship/naming rights arrangements and the re-branding of a number of well-know live music venues and advised on the IP aspects of a pharmaceutical product acquisition.
Dafydd has undertaken secondments to the offices of two TMT clients where he gained commercial in-house experience of advising on IP and general commercial matters. During his training he worked for 6 months in the litigation department of the Paris office of his former firm.
Dafydd trained as a solicitor in a major City firm, where he practiced for nearly five years after qualifying in 2005. He joined Marks & Clerk Solicitors in February 2010.Dafydd speaks English, French and Welsh fluently.
