Gregor Grant is an experienced hands-on patent litigator. He has acted at all levels of jurisdiction.
He co-founded a specialist IP practice, Needham & Grant, in London in the 1970s. It merged into Wragge & Co in 2000 and Gregor became Head of Intellectual Property in the merged firm. In 2005 he became a partner of Marks & Clerk Solicitors. In the 2008 Chambers UK directory he is described as a “really strong patent specialist, who is highly experienced”.
He has been involved as a lead partner in scores of patent cases across a wide spectrum of technology – mechnical and software, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemical engineering, diagnostics and food technology. Many of these have had a multi-jurisdictional aspect.
He has been involved in a number of landmark cases, acting for William Hill against Menashe on computer software as well as the recent inventor’s compensation claim against GE Healthcare on nuclear medicine patents. Other litigation matters handled by Gregor include actions on food technology, toothbrushes; Hepatitis C virus diagnostics, intravascular occluders, garment cutting machinery and DC electric motors.
Gregor also works on high-end due diligence investigations and opinions for large public companies in the fields of pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, and oil and gas exploration.
Gregor was a founder member of the Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and is a member of the European Patent Lawyers Association. He started off his life in the law doing medical negligence defence for doctors, and then moved to patent work at Bird & Bird before founding his own specialist law firm. Gregor joined Marks & Clerk Solicitors as a partner in 2005, is a member of CIPA, EPLAW and AIPPI. He enjoys playing piano (blues, boogie and rock), sketching, cooking and the pleasures of the table, motorcycling, cycling, skiing and parenthood.
